Autumn Term Curriculum Map

Timetable

Tuesday: PE - please ensure your child comes to school in their full Mountnessing PE kit. No jewellery is to be worn. If a child can not remove their own earrings, they will not be able to participate in the session due to health and safety.

Friday: Forest School - appropriate clothing for the weather as well as wellington boots must be worn. As the weather gets colder, please ensure children have layers. Spare clothing is helpful!

As your child is now in key stage 1, they will begin to work within the National Curriculum. This includes the following:

Core subjects - English, phonics, maths and science.

Foundation subjects - History, geography, art, PSHE, music, computing.

Reading

Children are expected to read at home 5 times a week. They will continue to receive banded and guided reading books matched to their reading ability. Reading supports phonetic knowledge, fluency, comprehension and writing. The more your child reads at home, the greater they will be able to expand these skills. Please note that home reading is monitored and recorded each week. Certificates are awarded to all children regularly reading at home 5 days a week at the end of each half term.

Homework

Once settled into the new routines of key stage 1, after October half term, maths and spelling homework will be set on Google Classroom each week in line with the rest of the school. Everyone will receive a login in due course. Once up and running, homework will be available from Friday afternoons and must be completed within the following 7 days.  It is vital that all homework is completed as it provides an opportunity for children to practice and retain learning done in class. Children’s homework completion is recorded each week and those who consistently complete this will receive a certificate for their efforts at the end of each half term!
