Breakfast and After School Club

Welcome to Mountnessing Breakfast and After School Club which is managed by Shenfield Day Nursery. We have been providing care for children within the Shenfield area for over 20 years and are proud of our excellent reputation. These high standards extend to our Breakfast & After School Clubs.

Our Breakfast and After School Club has been operating at St. Mary’s C of E Primary School since 2015 and we are both excited and delighted about now offering this service to the school families at Mountnessing C of E Primary School.

Our club is based in the brand new wooden clad building next to the woodland area within the school grounds. The cedar style building is a modern and spacious classroom with a fitted kitchen and individual toilet facilities.

The club is led by our inspiring Early Years Practitioner, Richard Harris, who has many years of childcare experience and five years within a woodland setting. Richard has been working with our sister club at St. Mary’s for two years; he has a Level 3 qualification and has up to date training in First Aid and Food Hygiene. Our ethos is to encourage children to engage with the natural world and the club will be making full use of the fantastic school facilities including playing field, woodland areas, playground equipment and garden gazebo.
The safety and security of your child is of paramount importance and we have robust collection and dropping off procedures. These policies will be discussed with you and included in your parent handbook when you join.

Our Aims
We strive to make the introduction to our clubs as happy and successful as possible. Our Breakfast and After School Club staff are experienced in supporting children to settle into the club environment and develop special relationships with the children and their parents. Staff ensure that children’s records are kept up to date including health, allergy, registration and where relevant, homework information. The Club Supervisor will always have a level 3 qualification and will have undertaken training related to the 5-11 years age group. The staffing team consists of qualified and/or experienced individuals, who have demonstrated the necessary skills. All staff have regular development supervisions and yearly appraisals, where training needs are identified. All staff receive ‘core training’ every three years including Safeguarding children, Paediatric First Aid, Food Hygiene and Equal Opportunities. Staff at the Club are supported by the Management Team at Shenfield Day Nursery.

Our Beliefs
We firmly believe that the club should complement the school day and not replicate it. Children will be encouraged to play outside whilst the weather permits and we will be introducing games such as:- French cricket, Bat and ball games (tennis style), Badminton, Football, volleyball, croquet and rounders.
Children will be inspired to get involved with mini beast hunts and projects on nature such as birds, butterflies and trees. Of course, there will also be plenty of indoor games and fun and we appreciate that children also need quiet, relaxing time to rest and unwind after their busy day at school. Our resources will include a book corner for enjoying stories and quiet time together and we will be able to support your child with homework if they are keen to do this during club time.
Most of all our aim is to provide a high quality Breakfast and After School Club service; a safe, fun space for children to continue to build their social skills, interact with one another and use their own imagination.
