Breakfast and After School Club

Welcome to Mountnessing Breakfast and After School Club which is managed by Shenfield Day Nursery. We have been providing care for children within the Shenfield area for over 20 years and are proud of our excellent reputation. These high standards extend to our Breakfast & After School Clubs.

Our Breakfast and After School Club has been operating at St. Mary’s C of E Primary School since 2015 and we were delighted to begin offering this service from 2021 to the families at Mountnessing C of E Primary School as well.

Our club is based in the bespoke wooden clad building next to the school’s woodland area within the school grounds. The cedar style building is a modern and spacious classroom with a fitted kitchen and individual toilet facilities.

We encourage children to engage with the natural world and the club makes full use of the fantastic school facilities including playing field, woodland areas, playground equipment and garden gazebo.

The safety and security of your child is of paramount importance and we have robust collection and drop off procedures. These policies will be discussed with you and included in your parent paperwork when you join.

To secure a place, booking is recommended as soon as your school place at Mountnessing has been confirmed. Where our clubs are full, we operate a waiting list system.

Our clubs

We strive to make the introduction to our clubs as happy and successful as possible. Our Breakfast and After School Club staff are experienced in supporting children to settle into the club environment and develop special relationships with the children and their parents. We work in close partnership with the school to support children’s wellbeing; with day-to-day handovers where required; transition meetings and regular EYFS meetings for the youngest children. Staff ensure that children’s records are kept up to date including health, allergy, registration and where relevant, homework information. The Club Manager will always have a level 3 qualification (or above) and the staffing team consists of qualified and/or experienced individuals, who have demonstrated the necessary skills. All staff have regular development supervisions and yearly appraisals, where training needs are identified. All staff receive ‘core training’ including Safeguarding children, Paediatric First Aid, Food Hygiene and Equal Opportunities. Staff at the Club are supported by Helen Evans, our Breakfast and After School Club Manager along with the Management Team at Shenfield Day Nursery.

Our Beliefs

We firmly believe that the club should complement the school day and not replicate it. Children are encouraged to play outside whilst the weather permits and we enjoy games such as:- Bat and ball games, Football, volleyball and rounders. Of course, there will also be plenty of indoor games and fun and we appreciate that children also need quiet, relaxing time to rest and unwind after their busy day at school. Our resources include a book corner for enjoying stories and quiet time together and we will be able to support your child with homework if they are keen to do this during club time.

Our breakfast selection includes a choice of 3 different cereals; croissants; toasted muffins; toast; pancakes; fresh fruit. A drink of full fat milk or hot chocolate on cold mornings is offered. Tea time food includes a mixture of sandwiches, quiches, chopped crudities and fruit. We also offer baked potatoes, beans on toast and pasta dishes.

Our aim is to provide a high quality Breakfast and After School Club service; a safe, fun space for children to continue to build their social skills, interact with one another and use their own imagination. Come and see our club for yourself – we warmly welcome families to pop in and see us!
